Domagoj Vida (£22m bid?)
Milliyet’s Besiktas journalist Serdar Saridag claims West Ham United are in pole position to sign Croatian international Domagoj Vida.

Like Sabah, Milliyet also report West Ham have offered €22m to sign Vida, and the Hammers are also prepared to pay the majority of the transfer fee in one go.

It’s claimed Besiktas may accept the offer from the Premier League club, and according to their information, West Ham are currently favourites to sign the player.

According to Milliyet, Besiktas are preparing for Vida’s departure, and they’ll use the money to pay off their debts and cover player and staff costs.

Milliyet say Besiktas president Fikret Orman and head of transfers Umut Guner will meet with the Turkish club’s manager Senol Gunes regarding Vida, when a decision will be made over selling the Croatian.

Shocking barnet, but then if that was a success criteria we wouldn’t have signed Payet, Christian Dailly or Frank McAvennie.

Terry-H, who was the only team to beat West Germany at the 1974 World Cup in West Germany?

As for Garry Breen, thanks for the memories. Still break out in sweat when I think of his FA Cup performance away to Manchester United.

To think he claimed that Barcelona were after him. Garry, if Barca want you you go.

Sadly I know the answer to this. Scotland. Believe they drew all their games or possibly won one. I know because they are still seen as the Heroes of 74 despite not qualifying from their group. I have a Scots MATE.

I'm glad you didn't give the answer away. It was indeed a shock.

Here's a good pub quiz question.
In the 1974 World Cup Finals, only one country remained unbeaten, and it wasn't the eventual winners West Germany.
What was that country?

You are right of course, so New Zealand were the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Didn't we also sign Pablo Barrera after a World Cup, who went on to say he was using us as a stepping stone to better things in his first interview as a West Ham player

He did play very well, and NZ were the only unbeaten team in the tournament, apart from the winners, Spain.

Dont forget Reid Moose....

Remember us announcing we were in talks with someone who had performed exceptionally at the 2010 WC......all the excitement brewed then Reid got announced after scoring 1 goal in the group stage!

I think it was Margas who was signed after having a good WC in 98.

"Florin Raducioiu"

Incorrect, we actually bought him after he had, as Harry put it "a shocker" at Euro 96.

We've made the mistake, twice, of signing players who had a good world cup, Florin Raducioiu and Breen; so its unwise to spend huge amounts on players based on this.

it is short at the back and the side, it's the silly bit on top that's long ;-)
